to get full extension, you have to switch the poles around and remove the plastic pieces from the inside of the end. The direction on this were not clear, the plastic piece doesn't fit securely when have to switch it to the larger rod

Rods ands the wall anchors are flimsy. For the price the quality isn't that good. For a first apartment they are sufficient
